The Problem of Price Comparison

Customers frequently call and ask us how much it costs to store their Super 8 on DVD or stick because they are looking for the cheapest provider… Do that when you want to buy a TV, a smartphone, or other devices. These are products that are exactly the same with each provider, but might be cheaper here and there. But not with a personal service such as film transfer, where people and experience play a pivotal role.

Add to that the problem that many providers in Switzerland boast about with superlatives and are proud to be the (apparently) “best provider in Switzerland,” but have the digitizations done abroad… in Germany, Austria, or even India… In our eyes, that just doesn’t work!

Perhaps I should make the comparison between cheap and affordable at this point:

“Cheap” stands for not expensive, but it also stands for inferior quality.

“Affordable” stands for financially manageable or promising success.

We’ve all stumbled over cheap goods at one time or another and subsequently asked ourselves what kind of junk we bought. After all, it was cheap, we paid almost nothing for it, so we shouldn’t expect miracles. Of course, there are always exceptions, but they are very rare.

And then there are products that don’t cost much (are affordable), but offer relatively high quality. Products that make you wonder how such quality can be offered at this price.

And that’s exactly where we come in. We try to offer our customers an affordable digitization service with our service and the effort involved, where the customer may pay a little more than elsewhere. In return, they receive a final product that promises success and that they can ultimately enjoy.

Customers who have only compared prices and are not satisfied with the result of the service providers often turn to us with the request: “Would it be possible for us to come by with the films (and the already digitized data)? We feel that the quality is not really convincing…”

And when customers can compare a film live on our scanner with the already digitized material, they are amazed. To illustrate, here are some (certainly extreme) examples that a customer (who wishes to remain anonymous) actually received from a “service provider around the corner.” He only brought the comparison images in paper form, but even so, the differences should be very visible from the scanned prints. These are Super 8 films that he had stored on DVD:

The Comparison

For this reason, I always appeal during price inquiries: Don’t just look at the price; compare the entire service and end quality. Only then can you weigh whether the cheap digitization is enough for you or whether you will be happier with a little more financial effort.

We are also happy to offer free test scans. Test scans based on a film you supply so that you can check with your own film material whether our service suits you or not.
